Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Am I responsible for my mother's debts?
My elderly mother lives with me.Her only income is social security & veterns benefits. She has several credit cards which she keeps in good standing. When she passes away, will I be responsible for her debts? Will the creditors have any claim to her life insurance? The amount of insurance she has will not cover her total debt.

No you are not liable for her credit card debts, provided you did not cosign the applications for credit. Her life insurance is payable at death, and is the property of the beneficiary. Creditors can reach it only if her estate is the beneficiary.
