Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Can someone serve you a court summons on your answering machine? They left a court docut number and asked us to call a number but did not leave a court time, date or place? They stated that they had tried to serve papers with two failed attempts. I am home all day everyday and no one has been here?

Service of process is when somebody hands papers to you, in person (there are a few exceptions to this rule).
