Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Settled account with Collections agency and they sold to another Collection Agen

Two years ago I was contacted by a Collection Agency to collect a credit card debt. I agreed to a settlement of 3 large payments and the account would be noted as paid. After two years I received a phone call at my office demanding payment on this account that I had previous made a settlement and paid. I informed the person of this agreement and I have continued to be harrassed by this company for the payment. The original collection agency sold my account to a new agency. I have the cancelled checks to prove the amount that was paid and agreed on (which was not the full amount of the debt). Also, my creidt reports show the account was closed by the first collector and a ''0'' balance due. I have not seen a bill or anything and have thought for the last 2 years this was taken care of. Can I request this new Collection agency to provide me a copy of the bill for the charges they say I owe? They have recently filed judgement against me. I don't feel I owe this since I paid and agree to three large payments and my credit report shows paid. What should I do about the judgement against me to pay this again?

First, what do you mean by "they have filed judgment against me." There is no legal way to "file a judgment" against someone except by filing suit against them, having them personally served and then obtaining a judgment from the Court.

Second, yes, you should make a written request for verification of the debt. If they do not give it to you and it appears on your credit report, you have a claim under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. If you have been sued, you should hire a lawyer.
