Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

sold auto, received ticket

Car was sold, title was handed over without signature. Trusted person, said he would take care of it. He said I did not need signature. I received a notice that I owed a parking ticket. I no longer own car. What can I do? I think I made a big mistake. How can I correct it?

Re: sold auto, received ticket

You have two issues to resolve. All towns that I am aware of have a procedure where you complete a notarized affidavit that you no longer own the car, and will be relieved of responsibility. Contact the municipal court clerk. Secondly, contact the division office of DPS/DOT where you live, and you can get the title released from your name. There is a reverse procedure called a bonded title. It will cost you a fee now, but better than paying for serious consequences later.
