Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Statue of Limitation

I received in the mail today a medical bill from my accident back in 04-18-2004 from a debt collector. My question is, should I pay this bill, even though in the state of Texas the Statue of Limitation for a written document is 4 years? If I don't pay it will it count against me on my credit report. They are offering me a 50% discount of the full balance, which is like $326. Thanks

Re: Statue of Limitation

It is your choice. They cannot successfully sue you for the debt, since it is past the SoL. It can remain your credit report for a few more years. IF you decide to make a payment, it will revive the SoL, so make sure any admission of the debt, including a payment, is pursuant to a written legal release.
