Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

statue of limitations on a bill

I lived in TX for 6 months and left to move back to CT 7.5 years ago. I had an outstanding bill ( I forgot about ) from AT&T for 100.00. I recently got a letter from a collection agency, NCC , stating I owe 300.00 for a past account through AT&T. I have 30 days to contact this agency. My question is what is the statue of limitations for this debt. I read on the internet it was 6 years in the state of TX. Can this collection agency have a legel right to collect this debt that's over 7 years old? I have not recieved any letters in the past from AT&T about this debt.

The account is a debt that is unpaid and will be 'til H_ll freezes over. The statute of limitations applies to filing a lawsuit. The cannot file a lawsuit against you because the SOL has expired. Write them a letter explaining this to them and tell them it should not appear on your credit report. Good Luck.

There is no statute of limitations on a bill you owe. Otherwise people would be rewarded for evading proper debts. My advice is to pay your bills. Even if the $300 hurts, at least it will be behind you.
