Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
statue of limitations
A debt was approaching seven years and a creditor sent it to collections at the last possible moment. Do I have any recourse? And can I get collections off my credit report?

Re: statue of limitations
The statute of limitations within which a lawsuit may be filed to collect upon a debt is four years in Texas. The amount of time a bad debt may be shown on your credit report is seven years from the date of default.
You need to write to the collection agency and the credit reporting bureaus setting out when the debt was incurred, and to make sure that it's removed from your credit report when the seven years has run.
