Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

statue of limitations

I got into financial distress in 5-2000, and stopped paying my credit cards. What is the statute of limitations and if the creditors call can I advise them that the SOL has expired? I found a letter that can be sent to creditors ''Expired statue of limitations dispute letter'' I know that the debts will stay on my credit report for seven years. Also, is the SOL in the state you live in or the state that you made payments to? Thanks for all your help

Re: statue of limitations

The statute of limitations on debt in Texas is four years. However, you need to see your contract with the credit card company, since you may have elected to be governed by laws of a different state, and some states have as much as a seven year statute of limitations.
