Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Statue of Limitations

In November, I received a notice of nonsuit without prejudice about a credit card that was last paid in 2000. A collection agency called yesterday and said it would be turned over to a lawyers office unless I paid a down payment of $1000. What is the statue of limitations in TX, and what should I do now?...I don't have that amount of money.
