Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Statute of limitations on Credit card debt

I was contacted by a collection agency about a debt that was at least ten years old. I no longer have records of payment after so long a time. What is the statute of limitations on this type of debt?

Thank you.

Re: Statute of limitations on Credit card debt

The debt actually remains until paid. The statute of limitations (4 years in Texas) starts to run when the last payment was due and unpaid. That simply means that after the statute runs, they can no longer take legal action against you.
