Subpeona to pay debt

I have an unpaid credit card debt, and the company has filed suit to collect. The local constable is attempting to server me with, what I assume, is a subpoena or some notice of the suit. I've never been home when the constable has tried to serve me. What if I never get served? Is the judgement ruled against me? Is no claim filed in court until I receive the documents? What will the credit card company do?

You must be served with the lawsuit in order for the co. to take a judgment. They can request the judge to allow you to be served by leaving it with some other person or by leaving it at your front door. Then they can proceed to take a judgment.
