Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

I am being sued by a credit card company for supposedly monies owed. I just got my credit report from TransUnion and it says this particular account has an "unpaid balance charged off." What does that mean exactly? How can they sue me if it has been charged off?

yes..charged off on their accounts but they could still sue if within 4 years...of last payment..
