Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Being sued by United Parcel Company

I am being sued by UPS for $15,000. The debt is legitimate and is the result of a failed business venture. The business was a sole-proprietorship. What are my options? Can they seize my bank account or wages? I have re-married since this debt occured. Can they seize money from my wife?

Re: Being sued by United Parcel Company

Your current wages cannot be garnisheed. Bank accounts can be subject to seizure. Since the debt was before marriage, they can only seize your half of the non-exempt community property.

Options: Negotiate a settlement, fight the lawsuit then hope you're judgment-proof, or file for protection in bankruptcy.
