Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

In Texas, can a credit card company garnish my wages, put a lien on my home or bank accounts if I pay them as little as $100.00 a month?

Officially, under Texas law, an employer cannot garnish your wages. However, many employers, not wanting to get into a hassle with the creditor, will garnish wages just to avoid any conflict or involvement. Your house is exempted by the Texas homestead exemption. Bank accounts are another story - bank levies are common, often illegally obtained (but if the person whose accounts are being garnished knows nothing about the applicable law, well, that's what the garnishors depend on), and viciously applied. And, if you are depositing Vets' benefits and/or social security, then garnishment of those funds is outlawed by federal law - a fact that few people know about, and so end up having these funds stolen anyway. Sound discouraging? That's another strategy at work for those who would garnish your bank accounts. They hope it will sound discouraging enough so that you'll just throw your hands up in the air and give up.
