Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
unauthorized credit inquiry by a debt collector chasing a foreign debt
I moved here from a foreign country 18 months ago. I have debt in my old country that I am no longer able to pay. I have been contacted by a US debt collector representing my foreign creditor. I have contacted my foreign creditor directly and offered a lower payment. But the US debt collector has pulled my credit report. I have very good credit in the US. Are they allowed to pull my US credit report in relation to a foreign debt?
Can I get their inquiry removed from my credit report?
Thanks.

Re: unauthorized credit inquiry by a debt collector chasing a foreign debt
Your debt followed you. Foreign judgments are entered in the US all the time. Everyone would have excellent credit if they could run away from their debts.
Whether they handled your credit information properly is strictly determined by the facts of the matter; you'd need a lawyer to make that determination.
