Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Unpaid Credit Card Debt Since 1993

Out of the clear blue sky, I get a notice

that I owe$3,956 and that the new acquisition and managment company who purchased the old company intends on sending me a judgement within 30 days.

They said the last payment was made on Sept 2, 1993.

The debt is $2000 and the interest is $2000. I asked why no-one has bothered to try and collect this since 1993 and they said it's just been on a shelf and now they are collecting. I am worried now b/c if my husband finds out, it will be bad news for me!!! I've tried to research this and I think their is a statue of limitations of 6 years meaning this debt should be cancelled and they legally cannot collect from me. BUT, if this is the case, why are they threatening me. I asked the man for the original application and proof of statments ( I can't remember back to 1993) and he refuses. PLEASE PLEASE answer this question BEFORE July 21. Thanks....
