Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Is this my vehicle?
I recently received the vehicle certificate of title in the mail for my vehicle. I have made one payment and have not paid it off, not even close. I am confused by them sending the title to me. I am wondering what are my legal rights and responsibilities? Do I still have to make payments on this vehicle?
Some have said I should stop making payments or sell it and get a new car. Others have said I should contact the lien holder and send the title to them. Thanks.

Re: Is this my vehicle?
Are you sure that this is the original title? Are you sure that there is no lienholder listed on the title? When you bought the car, you signed contracts which created a debt, which has not been satisfied. If it is the original title, and no lienholder is listed, then it APPEARS that your debt is unsecured, not secured by the car. In FACT, the right thing to do is to return the title. You will be able to sleep better at night, and you don't have to worry about spending thousands of dollars in legal fees defending yourself when they discover the error.
