Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

wage garnishment in tx

When my husband and I seperated I screwed my creit up really bad. I can not pay the bills. So now these collections people are harrassing me at work telling me they are going to garnish my wages. I thought that it was not legal in tx to do so unless it was for Child support, IRS or student loans. None of which are my situation. One of them said that law changed three years ago. I am a single mother on a tight budget and can not afford to have that happen. What can I do? Is this true?

Re: wage garnishment in tx

They are lying to you. Current wages cannot be garnisheed in Texas, with the few exceptions you named.
