wages

i was 16 years old and went to wenford hall (a goverment hospital). they just turned the bill of around $3,500 to a colection agency. the colection agency is now telling me that they are going to garnish my wages. around $380 a month in three weeks. can they do this? how could i fight this. i was a minor at the time do i still have to pay? i was not living on my on.

They can't garnishee your wages in Texas. Your parents may be on the hook for your hospital bill but you aren't.

You have to write to the agency, certified mail return receipt requested, tell them you dispute the bill since you were a minor when it was incurred, and that all subsequent communications are to be in writing.

Get an attorney if a lawsuit is filed.

Those people threatening you obviously do not know Texas law. There is no garnishment of wages in Texas. The only exceptions are the IRS, federally guaranteed student loans and child support.
