Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
wrong person
Hello,
I need your help....
I've recently received a letter from GC Services limited co. who represents u.s. department education. According to the letter, they're saying that I have a balance of $64949 . I have no idea what this is about.
If this is for student loan, I had none and it's been
20 years since i've graduated. Looking at the letter,
the acccount number didn't reflect my SSN. So, I assumed
this was a mistake. Just to be sure, I called the GC services to find out what's going on. They asked me for my ssn and confirmed that they were correct. I was totally
frustrated. I asked when the loan was issued and at what school. They said they couldn't tell me.
Somebody has used my SSN and my name to get the loan. GC service is not helping me to get to the bottom of this.
Do I need to hire and lawyer to help me? Who do you recommend?
thanks

Re: wrong person
Make a record of who you spoke to at GC Services and when. Because you gave them your proper SSN, I'll almost guarantee that will show up in the file. Get a lawyer to go after these people.
Never respond by phone. Always respond by certified mail, return receipt requested, and never, ever, give out your proper SSN unless specifically requested by the Social Security Administration or the IRS... in writing!
