Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
2nd theft by check
This is my 2nd theft by check $50-$500. I went to the courthouse and paid but I was detained for about 10 hours because a warrant had already been issued. I was released on PR bond, and a court date was scheduled for 4/11/06, but my court appointed attorney showed up late, and the date was rescheduled for 4/18/06. The attorney told me that since I already paid all the fines the charge may be dismissed, and I might not have to show up for the 4/18/06 court date. However, when she called today, she said that she spoke to the D.A. and that due to complications of my case, I would have to show up for my court date. What kind of complications could there possibly be if I already paid all the fines? Would I have to pay more fines, or will there be jail time involved?
