Has he been charged? If not and you are dealing with the complaint directly, ask for 2 estimates and pay it or he can be charged with criminal mischief. If he has been charged and has never been in trouble, then he will likely get a deferred offer which is the best he can probably hope for. You will have to pay restitution and they won't care to debate whether the amount is correct. If they don't offer him deferred without going to court then you will have to hire him a lawyer who will probably be able to get him deferred but again you will have to pay restitution. Even if he was never charged or prosecuted, you are responsible for damage that he does because he is under 18.
