Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
17 yr old cited for theft under $50
my 17 yr old daughter and 3 of her friends were detained for shoplifting. My daughter was involved however did not have any items on her nor did she attempt to the leave the store. They gave her a ticket for theft under $50 which they said was a class c misdemeanor. My question...will pleading no contest keep this from being on her permanent record and if this is on her permanent record how will it appear in a background search, etc.

Re: 17 yr old cited for theft under $50
She is an adult, and if not handled correctly, she will have a permanent record of the theft, which will severely limit her choices in the future. Talk to an attorney. Many jurisdictions have diversion programs for exactly this type of situation.
