Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Need Advice Regarding Probation

I plead guilty to a forgery charge (I forged my mother's name on her checks to pick up prescriptions for hydrocodone, to which I was addicted) about 1 year ago. I became addicted to hydrocodone after it was prescribed for post-surgical pain. I was assigned a public defender, and in a weird turn of events, he passed away before we were able to discuss my case. I met his replacement one time (during my final court date). She advised me to plead guilty for a reduced sentence of 5 years probation. She said I had to decide then or it would be ''taken off the table''. I was petrified by the entire situation and wanted nothing more than for it to end. I plead guilty. I was told afterwards that I had to pay for a bunch of fees incurred. I'm struggling to pay these fees. I fell behind and my probation officer (of whom I'm terrified) told me I would go to prison for non-payment. I've become depressed, anxious and very, very scared. I stopped going to my weekly drug-counseling meetings and, then, stopped going to my probation officer. It's been two months now and I don't know what to do. I'm too scared to call my probation officer. To whom can I appeal in order to begin mending this situation?

Mr. Grissom is absolutely right -- it is not too late to correct this -- but will be soon if you don't take action immediately. In my opinion, most PO's in your county are extremely reasonable. Call her today. Go to the meeting today.
