Is it advisable for a defense attorney to discuss evidence about a defendants case with the prosecuting DA before a court date or trial has been set for indictment?

Maybe. The attorney has to review the facts of each individual case to determine if pre-indictment or pretrial negotiation will benefit or harm the client.
