Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
Area of Practice and licensure
Can a Civil Attorney that is licensed as a Civil Attorney try a criminal case? I had an attorney try a criminal case in 1990 and he turned out to be a Civil Lawer not a Criminal. I would like to know if that was legal by the State Bar of Texas. I have researched the case but, cannot find out if the civil atty. can try a criminal case.

When attorneys are licenced, the attorneys can handle civil and criminal matters and its not required to obtain extra certifications by the attorneys. Some attorneys however specialize in certain areas of law.

Hello there,
Any attorney licensed through the State of Texas can practice any kind of law they chose.
