Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

armed robbery charge and attempted first degree murder

I was wondering if someone would help me with a situation? I have a brother who went in jail at the age of 17 and he was sentenced to 15 years for both crimes together (concurrently) and this was his first time getting locked up and I was wanting to know if he had any possible hope for getting his sentencing reduced and either getting a post conviction to help him out. I hsve been reading alot of cases online and I dont understand as to why it would be so hard for someone to help him. I have seen celebrities have muder charges with life sentences and get right out of jail because they have a lot of money it seems to me like it is a discrimination thing.

Unless he is innocent, it would take a lot of money to try to help him.

To be honest with you, 15 years for murder and armed robbery is not a long sentence for those crimes. It is actually on the short side.

Having said that, post-conviction relief is very difficult to come by. If your brother was indigent and qualified for a court appointed lawyer, the court should also appoint someone to handle any appeal issues.

Your only options will be for someone to file a post-conviction writ or to appeal the case outright.
