Hiring a qualified defense lawyer early in the process is always a prudent choice. The lawyer can possibly make headway into the case well before the arraignment date. I would not wait until the first court date before employing a defense lawyer of your choice.

Re: Arraignments

Hello there,

The arraignment is a hearing where the defendant pleads either guilty or not guilty. If you plead not guilty the case will be set at a later date for trial.

If you hire an attorney you can file what is known as a waiver of arraignment. The waiver will state you know what you are charged with and that you are pleading not guilty and the case will be set at a later date.

So, my answer is yes you need to hire an attorney to evaluate the states evidence to see what your chances are.

If you have any further questions or would like some advice feel free to contact me.
