after an arrest how long is it before you are charged and is there a time limit and if you arent charged in certain amount of time what happens?

You can be charged any time within the statute of limitations. The shortest statute of limitations in Texas is 2 years.
If you are asking how long you can be held in jail without charges, that is a little different. Depending on the level of crime, the state only has a certain number of days to charge a defendant before they are entitled to a more reasonable bond or a PR bond so they can get out of jail. For felonies, this is typically 90 days. It is shorter for other crimes.
