Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

assault charges

my 17 yr old son was charged with assault-bodily injury charges. according to the police report a lady was coming home from eating out when my son and another boy supposedly attacked her. on the day after my son was arrested i spoke to the lady she told me she was trying to help her nephew when he was fighting with my son and about 15 other boys and she got hit. she told me there were several boys involved however the only names she had were my son and the other boy, that is why they were the only ones arrested. based on this what would be my sons chances of having this dropped? worse cse scenario what is he facing. he has never been in any trouble before.

Re: assault charges

Amazing. Clearly the woman should go to the authorities [prosecutor, law enforcement] and set the record straight. Why is she telling you these things? If she would tell the right people the charges could well be dropped.

Get her to put her story in writing [having a statement taken by a professional would be a good idea] and get it to the people who can act upon it.

I would expect a juvenile with no prior record to be placed on probation is such a case provided the injuries were not serious.
