Re: assult charges

Possible consequences depends on if it you were charged with just assault or assault- family violence. Assault is a class A misdemeanor so you could get up to a $4,000 fine and 365 days in jail. If you are convicted of assault- family violence, you would being facing the same fine and jail time. Additionally, you will not be able to carry a firearm. Also if charged with assault-family violence again then you would be enhanced to a third degree felony instead of a class A misdemeanor. Assault-family violence is also a crime of moral turpitude so if convicted, it could be used against you if you testify in some other court proceeding.
