Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

bench warrant/license reinstatement

Need to answer to bench warrant issued due to unpaid speeding ticket. Attempted to set wheels in motion to take care of this by calling courthouse, but was informed that I would be arrested on the spot. Extenuating circumstances as to why ticket went unpaid: my then-husband purchased M.O. in fine amount. Did not find out about warrant until good time later when I went to renew my driver's license. The M.O. had never been sent. Am now currently under Prot. Order from ex-spouse and have had to be moved. Please give some advice I can really use; need to drive again - have 2 in college & 2 still in school. Thank you.

Re: bench warrant/license reinstatement

Have an attorney post a bond for the ticket and warrant. Then they should be able to negotiate on both with the state. You can post a bond yourself but this is one case were it is probably more cost effective to have the attorney do it for you.

You can also hire a bondsman, who can also post the bond for you and then hire an attorney to negotiate and handle your ticket. Or, as Mr. McKinney emailed to you, some attorneys will post the bond for you.
