Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Bounced Check

I am recently divorced. After my divorce, I moved. I bounced several checks. I have been in contact with the people who I owe this money to and have tried to make arrangements to have it all repaid. However, neither party is willing to work with me to repay it. I have received several calls demanding payment or this will filed with the courts. I don't want to get into trouble. I have three small children who's father is deceased. How can I take care of this without going to jail?

Re: Bounced Check

It is a Class C misdemeanor to knowingly issue a bad check. A person is presumed to knowingly issue a bad check if they have no account with the bank, or fail to pay the holder of the check within 10 days after receiving notice of the bank's refusal to honor the check. Start sending some money to the holders of the checks to show good faith in making restitution. They may be willing to work with you if you are making payments, but they are not required to. Good luck.
