Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Burglary of Residence

My apartment was burglarized last year,I suspected the 14yr old boy next day. A few months later someone tried to break in again and I questioned him,he seemed suspicious.I called the police and they talked to him,he ended up confessing that he was the 'lookout'in the buglary. He had knowledge of where the stolen items where(they were gone by this time)and they arrested him. When he appeared in court, the judge warned him that if he signed the confession he would be guilty,so he did'nt sign.CASE CLOSED!!. My question is..can I take his mother to small claims court and sue her for the value of the goods that were stolen(even a year later)?. Thank You..

You can take parents to court for the conductof their children, only if the parents were insome way negligent. In other words, did theparents know their child was doing these actsand simply did nothing, or did they not know?If you have evidence they knew, then you couldprobably bring an action in JP Court. Of courseonce you get a judgment, you may not be able tocollect anyway. Thanks for your question.
