Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
I can't get certified or registared to be a nurse because of childhood mistakes!
Help! I really want to be a nurse, but I have been told that due to my juvenile past, they will not be able to certify me. When I was 14, some ''friends'' and I were skipping school and went into a vacant house. The house was horribly trashed when we entered it. The cops came and my ''friends'' ran. I got charged with Burglary of a habitation. A felony. I served 9 months in an institute and 1 year of probation. I thought that was supposed to go away after I turned 18? The other problem is I was attacked by another woman, and in self defense I accidently cut her with my knife. I opened the knife during her hitting me. In the midst of her hitting and kicking me, the knife cut her on her arm and on her side. They charged me with aggrevated assault with a deadly weapon. I served 26 days in county jail, and then my court appointed attorny came and told me that they drooped the charge due to the fact that is was in self defense. Now, I applied for a nursing program at a nursing home, and they told me that I could not be accepted due to these two events. Please, please, please help me get this taken care of so I pursue my life long dream of being a R.N.

There are some laws that allow you to seal certain records. (ex. juvenile and deferred adjudications) To discuss the law in detail would take more room than this space would allow. If your prior cases were convictions of the nature you stated then you may be stuck with the records. Contact me by e-mail at [email protected] for more details.

In order to help you, and attorney needs to see the court records from both cases, to see if they can be either sealed (juvie) or expunged (adult). Most attorneys would give you an estimate of costs, if you bring the paperwork to the initial consultation. You are better off getting an attorney in the same counties where incidents occurred. TCL
