you were charged for assault but it was dism why is it still on your record can it be taken off

Yes, that can be expunged, but usually, you'll have to wait two years if it's a misdemeanor assault and three if it's a felony in order for the case to be eligible for expuction (there are sometimes exceptions to that, but not often). Unless you file a civil expunction case, the arrest and criminal case will remain on your record permanently.
