Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

My child is in trouble.

My son recently got arrested for burgulary of habitation with intent to assault. He is only 16 years old but the prosecution is saying that he could face life. This is the first time he has gotten into trouble. Also they are trying to get a statement from him with out a lawyer and they won't me to be present when he makes the statement. I refused because I feel like not only should I be there but the attorney to. They are saying he have a right to make a statement without a lawyer but yet they consider him to be a minor at 16years old. It's going to be hard for me to get a lawyer because I don't have money and they denied me Assistance with an attorney. Could you give me some advice on what to do.

You have to find a way to get him a lawyer. Keep trying. I don't know what happened in the refusal to grant a court-appointed lawyer, but you may need to petition the court again. Your child needs to know that he has to invoke his rights, and not to make any statements.
