Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

If someone got a citation for theft under $50 (the item was actually just $6), can they call the judge or court before the court date and just pay a fine, or what should they do? They also have a completed deferred Class B discharged on their record. What is the worse case scenerio that could happen with current Class C citation? Thanks in advance for any information or advice!
