Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

class c assault

I was issued a class c assault charge over the weekend. Disagreement with ex girlfriend led to my daughter and I calling the police. Third time for me to call on her.We left immeadiatly to go outside and wait for the police. When the police came they went up and came back to ask me how she got a knot above her eye. I told the polce that I did not touch her and that my daughter(15yr old) witnessed it. I asked the police to check me out physicaly so they knew I had no marks on me to prove I did not touch her. While they questioned the ex, her story changed on how she received the knot. My daughter and I were seperated and questioned. Both of us had the ame story , the truth. In the end I was given a class c asault charge. I plan on fighting this in court and pleading not guilty. What are the best steps for me to do this? this just happened on 4/7/07. Citation date shows to appear on or before the 20th

Re: class c assault

Goint to trial could be expensive. If your income is low enough, you may qualify for a court appointed attorney. Go to court on the 20th. See if you can qualify for a court appointed lawyer. If you don't qualify, ask the court for time to hire an attorney. You will probably get 15 to 30 days to find a lawyer.
