Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

It is clear to me that i was swindled in a petty theft by deception scam here in tx. Everything i have read tells me it is so. However when i presented my complaint to the sherrif he dismissed it as a civil matter and refused to move on it.What can i do now? Can I file some kind of motion to bring criminal charges on my own?

You can sue the person civilly if law enforcement refuses to accept charges. You can try to present a case directly to a grand jury but this is VERY rare. Depending on the size of the district attorney's office, you might put together a packet of all of the information and present it directly to them to see if they would take charges. They might instruct the law enforcement agency to take the charges or tell you no. If they tell you no, you are back to hiring a lawyer and suing the person civilly.
