i was convicted of unlawful firearm by a felon, the appeal court over turned for a new trial. i have already spent 4 and a half years in prison. but i bonded out of jail. the conviction was reversed in 2008. i did not know it was reversed until a year later. am i entitled to monetary damages for the time i served and the money i spent. should this be taken off my record like it never happened?

I am not sure about your question regarding damages especially as to the time you spent in prison before the conviction was reversed.
If the conviction was reversed, then you may be able to have the fact of the arrest and all other related information expunged from your criminal record. You will need to hire an attorney to help you with this.
