Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Do I have to keep a court appointed attorney after i make bond

I was arrested in 2000 on a theft charge. After I was able to make bond, the court appointed attorney given to me by Harris County Court 262 called me 3 days before the trial. He said the Judge told him he would be representing me even though I did not request him and had not retained his services in any way. I assumed any relationship we had dissolved after bond was made.I did not have an attorney to represent me at the time. The attorney instructed me to tell the court I first saw him when he was appointed to me, so he would get paid. He was a horrible attorney and I lost the case.Is this legal or usual procedure.

No it isn't usual, and you always have the right to represent yourself.
