we think my daughter was sexually assaulted. An investigation is underway. Can I use an attorney of my choosing or does the DA have to handle it?

The District Attorney handles criminal cases, not private attorneys. You can hire a private attorney to pursue the matter in a civil court, and any information uncovered can be shared with the ADA, if you choose. The DA may or may not be receptive to additional assistance.
