I sometimes get email ,the origin of which Im unfamiliar, and I go to open it - it turns out to be pornographic in nature, specifically pedophilia. Could I get in trouble just for visiting the web site? I did not download anything or buy anything.

If you are found in possession of such material you could face criminal charges for possession or promotion of child porn. Whenever you visit a website cookies are downloaded into your system for various purposes. Some cookies can contain images. If you are found in possession of such images, you will most likely face criminal charges.
