Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

defamation of character

man who bought property from husband is now calling him a crook to everybody who will listen and has said he thinks he is in the mafia. That statement was made to a detective and a policeman, repairman and a Realtor. He tells everyone who will listen and his business is next door to our retail business. This could do serious damage to our financial livlihood and damage to our reputations as honest business people in the area for 12 years. He is mad because he feels he paid too much money and has made many harrassing calls to our business, home at all hours and it has been proven to be him. We want to hire an attorney and file on him for demamation.

Wo you think this sounds as grounds to do so?

Thanks for your insight,

Kay

Re: defamation of character

Truth is a defense to a slander libel case. So if this individual is out there telling lies you would have a good case against him especially if it is harming your business.

Talk to some attorney's and find one you are comfortable with that handles intentional torts.
