Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Deferred Adjudication

I am currently a nursing student in the state of Colorado. We are about to run our criminal background checks- but when i was 16 (6 years ago) i went to court for a ''minor in posession of alcohol'' in the state of texas. (i wasnt arrested, just given a ticket) I was given deferred adjudication and told if i completed community service that it would be erased from my record. Is this going to effect my criminal background check and prevent me from getting my license for nursing?

Re: Deferred Adjudication

A successfully completed deferred does not "erase" a record, but the charge would have been entered as "dismissed." I don't know if juvenile records are sealed in Texas; nothing would surprise me about Texas (wonderful State: my mother was born there). If not, the fact of your dismissal probably can be sealed there.

But you shouldn't worry: one MIP, especially a dismissed one, does not a career ruin, or even more than negligibly impact.

Good luck. Sounds like you'll be a fine nurse.
