Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
deferred adjudication
I'm 21 yrs old. I was arrested when i was 17 for theft. I got deferred adjudication and then took classes to have it purged from my record. I was told specifically at the time that it would not show up when jobs did background checks. 3 days ago, I was fired because they did a background check and the theft charges showed up. I was under the impression that it was taken care of. Should this have happened? Thank you very much in advance.

Re: deferred adjudication
Actually, your description does not make sense. If you had deferred, the classes were probably a condition of probation, not to get it purged. Deferred keeps a conviction off of your record, but does not keep the arrest off of your record. Talk with an attorney in your area about getting an Order of Non-Disclosure. This was not an option for you at the time, but is now. Good luck.
