Deferred- be a Cop???
My husband is curently on Deferred judification. He is also currently a college student majoring in criminal justice. After completion of his deferred, will an expungement help him in acquiring a position on the police force? We currently live in Montgomery county, texas.

Re: Deferred- be a Cop???
Sorry, but your husband will not be able to expunge a deferred from his record, it will be on his record forever. If he completes the deferred adjudication, it will not be a conviction, but his record will reflect that he was arrested and charged with a certain offense, and it was later dismissed. You may hear and/or read that once he is off the deferred adjudication that he can file a petition for non-disclosure. He can file such a petition, but a petition for nondisclosure and/or sealing the record does not hide or seal the record from law enforcement. As to whether he will be employed in law enforcement, will depend on what the underlying offense was, the department's policies, etc.
