Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

domestic violence charge and paranoid schizophrenia

My girlfriend is diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. At the current time she is not on her medications. She has also filed charges on two previous boyfriends for domestic violence. In these two cases, victim services paid her money to move and get a new apartment. She has made the comment to me that she would live in a mansion from victim services if she ever found me cheating. One day I was across the street at a male friends house and some girls came over. Next thing I know, the police are at my house taking her away and she has filed charges of domestic violence against me. The charges are aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and injury to a family member. I want to go to court to fight it, but I am afraid that she might make up other stories to tell. She has spent time in jail herself for domestic violence and so have I. I feel that the system makes the male guiltyany time a woman claims domestic violence. I have a public defender but he hasn't come to see me. I don't have the money to hire another attorney. She also went to get my last pay check from work and spent all the money.

Can I discredit her story by telling about her illness? I don't know what I should do.

Hire a lawyer. Seriously. You have not been real smart about this situation until now -- but hopefully you now realize how dangerous she is. Get a job, mow a lawn, hire a lawyer on a payment plan, but get a lawyer, or it is going to get worse than it already is.
