Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas
fees
I am presently on 1-year I only have 3 months left.
I have been unable to pay off the majority of my montly court/probation fees, because I have been uenmployed for the majority of this time on probation, and the job I have now pays less than when I 1st moved to TX 8 years ago.... I am $400 in debt to the courts now. I have completed my coummunity service, I have never been late or missed my probation meetings. I have never caused any problems for my officer.
I would like to petition the court to get the rest of my fees waived. I know it can be done b/c my mom has 2 DWI's and she got her fees waived just 3 years ago when she was on probation. I know that over half the probation fees go toward just the administrative costs to run the offices.
I feel the court just automatially assigned a $62 monthly payment w/o considering my financial situation.
If I dont pay off my balance: I'll remain on probation. I dont want that for sure. I appreciate your attention to this matter.

Re: fees
Since your problem is that you have no money, there is no point in telling you to hire a lawyer.
Talk to your probation officer. (I wouldn't say much about mom and the DUI situation). Ask him/her if she will agree to it. If so, then go to the law library courthouse, and research the treatise and form books on the issue. The librarian will direct you to the books, but won't give you legal advice.
Alternatively, ask for unsupervised, as it will at least stop the costs from accruing.
